The Congregation of the Missionary Brothers of saint Francis of Assisi (CMSF) is an International Society of Religious Brothers founded in 1901 in India by Brother Paulus Moritz of Germany.  It was canonically erected on 21st February 1901 by Bishop Chrochet at Nagpur, India, and was approved by the Sacred Congregation of Propaganda Fide on 08th January 1921.  It is a Religious Missionary Institute of Pontifical Rite under the Sacred Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.  The Congregation follows the Rule of the Third Order Regular of Saint Francis of Assisi.  The Congregation has pioneering evangelization as its charism.  Keeping up the basic characteristic of the Congregation, it has, over a century of eventful years, handed-over 90 well-established mission stations/parishes to different dioceses.  The Congregation has over 85 centres in India alone, spread out to four Provinces and one Region, and a Province each in Sri Lanka and South America. We have also few communities in Europe and Africa, Bamberg in Germany, Düdingen in Switzerland, casa San Francesco in Rome and a new initiative of ours in Ghana in West Africa.  In keeping with our charism of pioneering evangelization, the Congregation undertakes various activities such as establishing and running Boys’ Homes (Orphanages), Schools, Colleges, Technical Training Centres, Vocational Training Centres, Dispensaries, Hospitals, Rehabilitation Centres, model Agricultural Farms etc.  In all these activities undertaken by the Congregation, catechetical, pastoral and humanitarian works assume great importance.  The Brothers live and work in communities of three or more, and try to be living witnesses to Christ, spreading true Franciscan joy and Gospel brotherhood.  The relentless work of the Brothers continues with increased zeal today, as we have completed over century of  evangelical dynamism in the spirit and tradition of our great brother-patron, the inspirational Saint Francis of Assisi.
